Activated Carbon Innovations was founded by Dave von Broembsen & Malcolm Bland with the objective of producing high quality, environmentally friendly Activated Carbon from Macadamia nut shells.
During 2009 a furnace was built and commissioned in Limpopo province, South Africa, close to a plentiful supply of the raw material. As a result of extensive R&D and pilot plant testing in our Limpopo facility, we are now consistently producing a high quality product with Iodine value ~ 1100 mg/g. On site testing is performed to ASTM-D4607 specification to ensure the quality of our activated carbon produced.

We use a unique and patented process for both the carbonization and high temperature steam activation in a single stage operation, from raw macadamia nut shells to high quality activated carbon.
The unique ability of the process to produce undiluted pyrolysis gases and undiluted steam/water gases results in having access to these high calorific gases which are used to significantly reduce the overall cost of energy used in the process.
